The University of Hawaii ADB Scholarship, funded by the Asian Development Bank – Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP), covers all costs for students from ADB's developing member countries. This scholarship allows you to pursue a master's degree in specific fields at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa (UHM). Scholars will also take part in educational, residential, and leadership programs at the East-West Center (EWC)

You can apply for the ADB Scholarship if you are from one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Cook Islands, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Fiji, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Kyrgyz Republic, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, or Vietnam.

Basic Eligibility and Requirements for the ADB-JSP

  1. Citizenship and Age:
  2. You must be a citizen and currently living in an ADB Member country.
  3. You should be no older than 35 years at the time of application.
  4. Academic Background:

    1. You need to have a four-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) at the time of application. This could include:
      1. A three-year bachelor’s degree plus a one-year master’s degree.
      2. A two-year bachelor’s degree plus a two-year master’s degree.
    2. (The equivalency of your degree will be reviewed by the program.)
  1. Work Experience:

  2. You must have at least two years of full-time professional work experience after completing your degree.
  3. English Language Proficiency:
    1. You need to have taken an English proficiency test within the past two years, with minimum scores of:
    • TOEFL (paper-based): 550
    • TOEFL (computer-based): 213
    • TOEFL iBT (internet-based): 79-80
    • Duolingo: 95
    • IELTS: 6.5
